Starved Rock
Another one of my favorite hiking places in Illinois is Starved Rock State Park.
Starved Rock State Park was named the best tourist attraction in Illinois for 2019. And rightfully so, they have amazing trails that end in beautiful waterfalls formed by glacial melt water.
The visitor center is a fun place to go in.There are several interactive displays, free videos on the park, hiking maps, and a snack bar.
The Starved Rock Visitor Center now hosts free guided hikes to Starved
Rock and French Canyon every Saturday and Sunday at 9:30 a.m. through
February 9th and resume June 9th-November 17th, 2019. Guided hikes
discuss the history, legend, geology, plants, and animals of the park.
There are over 13 miles of hiking trails and if you want to see a waterfall its best to go after a rain storm. The park is open all year long so it changes for the seasons, during the winter you will see ice falls. It is a beautiful place to visit but it can get crowded in the summer.
